What we do

We defend the Mediterranean from Indiscriminate Fisheries

WE CONTRIBUTE TO THE RECOVERY OF BIODIVERSITY IN OUR SEA

We promote actions to protect ecosystems and species of the Mediterranean, the world’s most overexploited sea

The Mediterranean is one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. Although it covers only 0.8% of the ocean surface worldwide, it is home to around 17.000 marine species.

This unique ecosystem is under attack on several fronts. And it is being degraded at an alarming speed.

In recent decades, the intensification of fishing effort has put many species at risk: sharks, sea turtles and cetaceans as well as Posidonia meadows and corals.

Today, 75% of assessed Mediterranean fish stocks are overfished.

This alarming fact sadly ranks the Mediterranean in first place among the most overexploited seas in the world. Promoting the recovery of its biodiversity is urgent.
